Anna, a young slave, is rescued and adopted by Christians in Smyrna in the second century, and aided by Bishop Polycarp. As is taught by him and his new family, she struggles to reconcile their beliefs with the Christians. When the Roman proconsul require all citizens to worship the emperor, to show fidelity to Rome, Polycarp and his fellow Christians need to find the courage to defend their faith against the growing threat of persecution. Thus, Anna will have to choose for those who are willing to live and die.
